Consumer rights group representative Reggie "Refund" Johnson of The Refund Rangers doesn’t usually dabble in conspiracy theories, but from time to time he likes to enjoy a nice conspiracy theory video i.e. JFK assassination, the moon landing was staged, the earth is flat, space is fake, etc…. However, ever since Dave Chappelle did his Oprah Winfrey interview, his and others' YouTube feed has been flooded with videos showing montages of men in drag, Dave Chappelle has single-handedly messed up the YouTube feed and experience of many consumers. David Chappelle needs to be held accountable for this! Says Reggie "Refund" Johnson.
Reggie "Refund" Johnson says he looks at this topic of men in drag from 3 points of view, an American point of view, a European point of view and a Middle Eastern point view.
If you hang out with people who expect you to “Keep it Real” on a daily basis, and seeing you in a dress would have the consequence of you being called a bitch from sun up to sun down, then wearing a dress is probably not for you. Don’t sweat it or make a big deal out of it!
From a European perspective, if you watch European comedy, you will notice that 25% of the audience at any comedy related event, will be kids around 10 years old, because comedy there is much more tame and not as vulgar. And for audience members of that age, who are not capable of processing satire on social, political or economic issues, what is more hilarious to them than a 6ft 7in dude with a Santa Claus beer belly dressed up like a woman? They paid money for their tickets and seats too; so they deserve some laughs as well.
The Middle Eastern point of view on men in drag is a little more interesting. In Islam it is not mandatory, but it is recommended, that women do not work in show business. I don’t mean executives, managers or producers. I mean specifically as actresses, dancers or singers. And why you might ask yourself?
Because a beautiful woman on stage, with talent, automatically becomes a seductress. And we as men, who are already thinking about sex 24/7, the last thing we need is to be thinking about that especially when you are at an event with your wife and kids and there’s a beautiful woman on stage with her tities all in your face.
For this reason, in very conservative circles, women don’t participate in show business. So when it comes to plays or acting roles in general, all the cast members are exclusively men, some of which are playing female roles.
And they’re not just dressed in drag or portraying a woman sarcastically, no, they’re doing their absolute best to sound convincing as a female, weep like a female, sob like a female, cry like a female, have the mannerisms of a female, i.e. doing their best to convince you that they’re a female.
And ironically!
These are some of the manliest or masculine men on the planet. They have anywhere from 1 to 4 wives, tell all of them to shut the heck up and get in the house and make them dinner. And God forbid, someone pisses off one of these men, they’re putting on a vest. And I’m not talking about a Gucci or a Louis Vuitton vest. No I’m talking about that vest that comes with the blue and red wires and an oven timer, that when it goes off, takes everybody down.
My favourite movies of all time, have the main characters dressed up in a miniskirt 90% if not 100% of the whole movie, says Reggie.
The Gladiator starring Russell Crow. Do you think Russell had a moral dilemma about this role? NO; he just put on that mini skirt and fought that tiger.

Mel Gibson in Brave Heart, is another one. He put on that kilt, painted his face blue and yelled, “Give me freedom!”

Brad Pitt in Troy, is another one.

It’s all about context, if the shit makes sense, don’t sweat it. Do your part, get paid and go about your business.
I once had a conversation about this topic with a member from the Chicago based Nation of Islam, says Reggie. By the way, side note on the Nation of Islam, is there a rule somewhere in the organisation that any male member who joins has to immediately sound like and start talking like Malcolm X, what the heck is that shit about?
Anyways, I told him verbatim exactly what I just said here in this interview, to which he replied:
“No my brotha, Deuteronomy 22:5, A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.”
To which I replied, “Um Yea, I’m in 100% agreement with you! It’s in reference to freaking transvestites! Not being on stage or TV for comedic effect making little kids laugh! Why are you looking for shit where there is no shit to be found?”
If this post earned a smile or a quiet “Okay, that was good,” consider dropping a small contribution.
